Tŷ Castell offers a special eating, drinking and staying experience at the heart of Caernarfon in a historic building within the walled town.

A stone’s throw from Caernarfon Castle and within easy reach to all the town’s shops and attractions, the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia; Tŷ Castell is the perfect place to relax and enjoy in a luxurious, Welsh atmosphere.

We specialise in the best produce from Gwynedd, Wales and the world and offer breakfast, lunch, fantastically presented afternoon teas and evening meals based on tapas and other inspirational meals.

Our 4 en-suite bedrooms have been furnished to a high and tasteful standard providing an unique and Welsh experience for our guests.

History

Tŷ Castell stands within the walled town of Caernarfon. Caernarfon is a special town with a long and fascinating history. Caernarfon is also ‘the Welshest town in the world’ and we are extremely proud to be employing Welsh speakers and using Welsh as the main language of our business.

A date of 1735 is written on the front of the building, however the location is part of the mediaeval town-scape of Caernarfon and evidence of this can be seen in the stone cellar of the building.

This is a Grade II* Listed building and therefore is a building of importance. Research suggests that Castle House was once called The Wine Cellar or Selar Win during the early 19th Century, and we are therefore laying claim to probably being the oldest wine bar in Caernarfon!

Within the restaurant today you will see the original shop shelving where tea, coffee, caviar and other luxury goods were sold in the past. Today we are emulating the luxury of the past in a contemporary and Welsh way.
